Discipline Plan

Discipline Plan for 2018-19

My classroom has a Discipline Plan in place to reinforce behavior in a positive manner. Our school has three basic rules for Boonsboro Soaring Eagle behavior. The purpose of the plan is to encourage classroom conduct that the children should already be displaying in the classroom.

  • Be responsible
  • Encourage everyone
  • Show respect

The types of behaviors that we expect students to exhibit include presenting good character demonstrating that they are ready to learn.  We will be looking for things like being honest, responsible, keeping hands and/or feet to themselves, staying on task, completing homework or class assignments on time, helping others, etc.  When students are showing Boonsboro Soaring Eagle behavior, they will be moved up on our behavior chart.  Conversely, they will move down on the chart if they are not demonstrating these behaviors.  This behavior plan is developed to help students understand the value of doing the right thing(s) and generating a sense of accomplishment.

The children will begin each day on the color green.  They can move up or down the chart throughout the day.  My expectation is that they will end the day at or above the green level because this shows Boonsboro character!  If a student ends the day on red, there will be a note sent home or a phone call explaining the reasons.  If a child has three red days in a week, a Discipline Form may be filled out and copies will go to the parents, teacher’s file, and Principal Williams.  To be fair, I will also send a positive note home when your child ends the day on violet three times in a week!

Violet

Congratulations! Today is your day. You’re off to great places! You’re off and away!

Indigo

You’ll pass the whole gang and you’ll soon take the lead!

Blue

You’ll be on your way up! You’ll be seeing great sights!

Green

You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose!

Yellow

You’re too smart to go down any not-so-good street.

Orange

Bang-ups and hang-ups can happen to you.

Red

And when you’re in a slump, you’re not in for much fun. Un-slumping yourself is not easily done! (But you can do it if you try!)

You can help by supporting our classroom rules, completing homework on time, and encouraging daily accomplishments.  Ask your child to tell about his or her day at school.  This discussion can lead to making a plan toward improving misbehavior.  An alternative plan may be necessary for a child who demonstrates a pattern of misbehavior.  In this case, I will contact you for a conference.

Keep in mind that this behavior management program is in place to support, not to drive, classroom instruction. My goal is to ensure that your child receives the best possible education according to his or her strengths and needs.  If you feel, at any time, that you would like to meet to discuss your child’s progress, please do not hesitate to contact me at school.

Sincerely,

Mrs. McKinney
