Homework

Homework

In First Grade, we focus on oral reading skills, number sense, and sight words for homework.

111

   Reading:
Students will bring home a leveled reader in the daily/reading folder to read each night.  The student will read the book each night.  Our goal is fluency!

  Math Facts:
Students work on various math skills that will help them understand the way numbers work. This will help to reinforce what they are taught at school and build a strong foundation for the future.

  Sight Words:
Students will bring home a sight word list in their reading/daily folder.   We will all begin with the pre-primer list.  Students will be checked on their progress at a given date and given the next list when that list is mastered.  First Graders should master the pre-primer, primer, and First Grade list by the end of First Grade by recognizing the words in 3 seconds or less.  Students should also be able to spell these words.  Students may work at their own pace.

*All these homework assignments will not begin right at the beginning of the school year.  We will slowly introduce the homework assignments to help your child become more accustomed to the practice of homework.  Please check your daily/reading folder for up-to-date information on weekly homework.*
