I am excited to welcome you to a new school year.  The following information will help answer some questions you may have about what to expect this year.

What will my day look like?

Students will come to the classroom from the bus or car.  They can bring school breakfast to the classroom if they eat here.  We will be in OUR room all day.  Students will be taught all of the subjects by their homeroom teacher.  This includes resource classes.  We will still have music, art, and P.E. but I will be teaching those classes.  We will have recess daily but we have designated spots on the playground and we will NOT be having recess with students from other classes. We will eat lunch in our classroom.  We have a restroom in our classroom so students will only be using that restroom.  We have two sinks in our room for hand washing.  I wanted you to be aware of these changes because they will make our day look very different from what your child is used to. With that being said, we can and will have a lot of fun getting to know each other and working together this year.  There are currently 12 students in our class but those numbers have been fluctuating.

Communication:

I will send home a weekly newsletter in the homework folder each Monday.  The update will include any special announcements, dates of upcoming tests and events, and information about what we are focusing on that week in each subject.  Please let me know if you have a different email address that you would like me to use. You can also get information from my teacher page on the Boonsboro Elementary website.

Homework:

Students will have a Homework folder that will come home on Monday.  Students will have a weekly reading log.  They will read a minimum of 20 minutes per night Monday through Thursday and will turn in the log on  Friday. Feel free to change the number of minutes read each night to accommodate your schedule. Our goal is to read an average of 80 minutes weekly. Generally, students will have a math practice page to complete each week.  It will go home on Monday and will be due on Friday. Other homework is not regularly assigned during the week with the exception of studying for tests.

Resource Schedule:  with the homeroom teacher

Monday: Music

Tuesday:  Art

Thursday:  P.E.

Friday:  Research/Technology

We will have recess daily. Please make sure that you have appropriate shoes for outdoor activities.

Snack:  We will eat a healthy snack each morning.  Students are encouraged to bring water bottles for use throughout the day.  They should have a spill-proof top and should contain water only.  They will be able to refill water bottles from the sink but the water fountains will not be open.

Clinic Visits:  Please be aware that students will not be going to the clinic for minor aches and pains, loose teeth, nosebleeds, etc. We will be keeping students in the room unless they are experiencing symptoms that require them to be seen by the nurse.
