Rules & Grading Policy

Music Classroom Rules


Students are expected to give their best effort in Music Class every week.  

Activities in Music Class may include:

  • Singing & playing instruments with proper technique

  • Learning about other cultures and their music

  • Listening to music from different time periods

  • Writing music and lyrics

  • Learning how to be a good performer and listener

  • Learning to communicate using musical language (notation and terminology)

Students receive a grade on their report card for Music Class every quarter. Their grade is based upon their participation in classroom activities.


S Student attempts each new learning task with focus. Student hones their musical skills through practice and classroom performance.   Student cooperates with their classmates to create music in an ensemble. Student shows respect to the teacher and other students.

N Student sometimes attempts new learning tasks with focus. Student sometimes works to hone their musical skills through practice and classroom performance. Student sometimes cooperates with their classmates to create music in an ensemble. Student sometimes shows respect to the teacher and other students.

U Student rarely attempts new learning tasks with focus. Student does not work to hone their musical skills through practice and classroom performance. Student does not cooperate regularly with their classmates to create music in an ensemble. Student does not show respect to the teacher and other students.

E Student is exempt from a grade (due to illness, prolonged absence, or other academic issue)
