Role of the School Counselor




At BNES I:
  • Work with individual and small groups of students to help them resolve and cope constructively with problems and developmental concerns.
  • Visit classrooms to teach developmental lessons designed to foster academic, career, and personal/social development.
  • Consult with teachers and parents to aid them in helping students.
  • Coordinate referrals to outside agencies.
  • Coordinate testing (Stanford 10/OLSAT, SOLs, etc) 
  • Chair the school's SCT Committee
  • Am a member of the school's Behavior Support Team, Leadership Team and Crisis Team.
As a Counselor, I Help Student to:
  • Understand abilities and limitations
  • Develop self-understanding and self-awareness
  • Build self-confidence and self-esteem
  • Adjust to school and changes in their lives
  • Find answers to his/her concerns
  • Learn to make decisions
  • Develop skills in getting along with others
  • Achieve more in school
  • Become aware of the world of work
  • Find opportunities to feel successful
  • Talk about educational, personal, or social concerns
