Letter from the Principal
Dear Boonsboro Eagle Families,
I want to welcome you to another school year at Boonsboro Elementary. I am honored to serve the Boonsboro Family again and look forward to working alongside staff, students, families, and community members to reach new heights!
I began my teaching career in Nelson County, as a 5th grade educator, after earning my Elementary Education (PreK-6) degree from the University of Lynchburg. I spent seven years in this position, and in 2016 earned my Administration and Supervision (PreK-12) endorsement also from the University of Lynchburg. This took me on a new journey, bringing me to Bedford County, where I have served as the Assistant Principal of Goodview Elementary School for three years and Staunton River Middle School for one year.
I want to share with you a few beliefs I have about school. I believe learners should be excited about school. Along with our learners being excited about school, our teachers also need to be enthused about school. We must ensure we are doing fun, engaging activities involving hands-on teaching and learning. Our learners must be active, working together, not just sitting and listening. For our staff members, I want to ensure they're also having fun. At meetings ensuring they are moving and interacting with one another. We have to remember whoever is doing the talking is doing the learning. We have to make sure our learners are having good dialogue as well as our teachers.
We ensure all staff, including myself, show up daily for your child. We make sure we know the standards and best practices, and we put them in place. Everything we do together is team-oriented. We collaborate, communicate, and reflect together to continue improving our practices. These same practices hold true for our learners as well. We provide them opportunities to work in cooperative learning groups, which are highly engaging and foster a sense of community because when students feel safe they can focus on learning. I believe we should also celebrate learner success. We do this in many ways, but just a couple of ways we are doing this are through our daily staff shoutouts and monthly student celebrations highlighting learners who personify our 6 core values... A Boonsboro Eagle Is: Brave, Optimistic, Organized, Motivated, Encouraging, and Respectful.
Our teachers and learners need to be the best version of themselves every day, as do I. Learners will see me very active throughout the school day. I place a large emphasis on being visible in the school, getting into classrooms each day to observe and interact with the teachers and learners.
Parents, you also play an integral role in the success of our children. Please be involved as much as you can and help us create and be a part of our school story.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call the school or email me at [email protected]. My job, your job, and our teachers' job is to ensure ALL of our students reach their full potential!
Sincerely,
Jonathan DeMaio, M.Ed.
